PIWAG Group

Windhagmühl 66, Liebenau, Oberoesterreich, Austria | Waste Management

The company Piwag was founded in 2000 with the aim of the professional and appropriate collection and treatment of non-hazardous and hazardous waste. Since then we have been working on continuously improving our environmental policy.

STRUCTURAL MEASURES AND REQUIREMENTS

On the company site, an operating facility consisting of an office building, a workshop, a locksmith's shop, a storage room for non-hazardous waste, a storage room for hazardous waste, storage boxes, a surface water catchment basin and a scale was built in stages, whereby the whole area is of course against External access has been secured.

The workshop has approx. 200 m² and is attached directly to the office building. The garage was equipped with an assembly pit in order to be able to carry out minor repair and service work on the in-house vehicle fleet. The garage was divided in the middle with a massive partition so that the assembly pit-free part could be used as a warehouse for non-hazardous waste if the business expanded accordingly.

DANGEROUS WASTE

A separate 160 m² room with a collecting tray and media- resistant floor was built for hazardous waste, whereby all waste is temporarily stored in accordance with ÖNORM S 2100 (September 1, 1997). In the room there are shelves made of metal that were attached to the wall. This effectively prevents tipping over. All shelves are labeled in accordance with the ADR and GGBG regulations.

LIQUID WASTE STORAGE TANKS

For liquid waste, 3 double-walled tanks with a total volume of approx. 60 m³ liters and a collecting basin in the area of the inlet and outlet nozzle were set up. Used oils, emulsions and any other liquid waste are temporarily stored in the tanks. Under no circumstances are acids or alkalis stored in it.

SURFACE WATER

The drainage basin is provided for the surface water that occurs. It has a dimension of about 28 x 12 m and is designed with a horizontal floor and an average water level of 1.5 m. The slope of the company site was chosen so that the surface water flows directly into this basin. In order to prevent the large drainage basin from becoming silted up, a smaller collecting basin is installed upstream to allow the fine particles contained in the surface water to settle.

SCALE

To weigh the arriving trucks, a weighbridge with a length of 10 m and a maximum payload of 50 tons was purchased, which is also available to the citizens of the community of Liebenau for a small fee.
