KIAS Recycling
Unterthalham Straße 2, Ohlsdorf, Oberoesterreich, Austria | Tire and Rubber Recycling
Sustainability, responsible treatment of nature and optimal use of available resources are the maxims of the KIAS company philosophy. These considerations form the basis for the recycling of old tires, which is fundamentally different from thermal recycling or simple landfilling and corresponds to the principles of the KIAS formulated above.
The system breaks down the old tires into their components rubber, steel and textile cord. The end product is high-quality recyclable materials that can be reused in the manufacture of new products such as fall protection mats, impact sound insulation, sports facilities, children's playgrounds, etc. KIAS has also developed its own recycling channels in new products for the steel and textile cord portions of the old tires that arise during reprocessing.
Between 5.5 and 6 million old tires are produced annually in Austria alone - KIAS makes an important contribution to the sustainable use of natural resources and thus to the protection of the environment through the ecologically and economically sensible recycling of old tires.
Own developments by KIAS
KIAS creates its own, scientifically sound and practical solutions. The result is innovative products - simple, intelligent, safe and inexpensive. We develop tailor-made applications for our customers quickly, flexibly and reliably. Achieving the highest quality while breaking new ground - that is our goal!
Recycling plant
The KIAS recycling plant is characterized by high flexibility in recycling and first-class quality of the recycled materials. State-of-the-art technology ensures the best possible fulfillment of the most diverse customer requirements. The annual processing capacity is 30,000 tons of used tires, from which up to 18,000 tons of rubber granulate or up to 6,000 tons of rubber powder can be produced.
Environment
The plant was planned and built according to the latest state of the art. The envisaged technology works at ambient temperature (hot grinding).
The production facilities are located in closed production halls; Pre-sorting and pre-shredding takes place in a covered area, right next to the processing machines in the factory hall.
The rubber grinding systems are largely encapsulated so that the air can be sucked out of the processing points and cleaned off with a dust filter. This ensures that no air pollution occurs for employees or the environment. Furthermore, the minimization of noise through appropriate insulation measures was taken into account during the planning phase. For this purpose, calculations and measurements were carried out by independent experts to ensure optimal protection for residents and employees.
The environmental friendliness of the recycling plant is ensured by the sum of the measures implemented.

Pre-shredding
The sorted tires are shredded into palm-sized pieces (tire shreds) using rotary shears.
Granulation
In a multistage process, the tire shreds are gradually reduced in size in a modern granulation press.
Cleaning
This is followed by an elaborate separation and cleaning process, which guarantees the highest quality standards for the end product.
It is characteristic of the KIAS system that, on the one hand, the highest quality standards are achieved and, on the other hand, the most diverse customer requirements can be met in the best possible way thanks to maximum flexibility.
