Recycling service

Economic sustainability

Waste avoidance, long-term use, repair and recovery of raw materials are the main corporate strategies of the business areas: recycling service, low-cost department store and electrical workshop.

From the region for the region. With the firewood yard, the regionally renewable fuel from the local forests is prepared for combustion and thus replaces oil and gas from distant countries. Wood briquettes are produced on site and sold regionally. The wood pellets are produced in the Sauerland and traded regionally.

The wood fuels (logs, wood briquettes, pellets and wood chips) replace around 2.5 - 3.0 million liters of heating oil every year!

Environmental sustainability

The RU GmbH works in buildings that are predominantly made of wood and insulated with cellulose. The room heating is generated by wood chips, wood pellets and heat recovery.

A rainwater system is operated at the Borken site to ensure that the toilet is flushed and that the flowers are supplied with water over the long term. The roof surface water (2,000 square meters) flows over an open ditch to a natural pond, the overflow leads into a cistern from which the service water is taken.

The roof areas of the various buildings are completely covered with PV modules. On average, 440,000 kWh of electricity are generated and 95,000 kWh consumed annually.

Social sustainability

RU GmbH, as a subsidiary of Forst- und Umweltdienst Schwalm-Eder gGmbH, gives preference to disadvantaged people when it comes to recruiting. Project employees of the non-profit GmbH were and are often taken on as permanent staff at RU GmbH after qualification.
