At the beginning of the new millennium, Harpen EKT (now RWE), Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe and AR Recycling decided to jointly build and operate a wood-fired thermal power station with an associated processing plant in the federal capital, Berlin.

As a result, a wood-fired thermal power station in Berlin / Rudow with an annual consumption of up to 260,000 tonnes of waste wood, approved according to the 17th BISchV, and a waste wood processing plant with a technical output of up to 315,000 tonnes a year in Berlin / Spandau were built.

Today the wood-fired cogeneration plant is operated by innogy , a subsidiary of RWE, and the waste wood processing plant by Holzkontor Preussen , a subsidiary of UAI GmbH with sole shareholder Michael Klotz.

Special feature: water connection with ship traffic

In terms of transport, the two companies are mainly connected via the waterways in Berlin. Here push barges travel between the districts of Rudow and Spandau and transport more than 50% of the wood required for the production of heat and electricity.

Certified waste management company

The waste wood processing plant of Holzkontor Preussen GmbH has the approval to store and treat waste wood of all categories , the same applies to tar-containing roofing felt.

In addition to the production of input materials for thermal recycling, wood chips from waste wood of categories I and II are produced in all fractions for material recycling in the domestic and foreign wood-based materials industry.
