Dhondt Recycling recycles metal waste. For many decades, our company has been an established value in the wide Tielt region. In 1930 we started recycling wool, rags, bones, rabbit hides and to a lesser extent 'old iron' on the Tieltse Poelberg. At the time, everything still happened with a horse and cart. After the Second World War, there was a lot of iron and especially copper scrap (shells) available, so we started buying this material, especially in the Westhoek. In the 1950s, the textile industry began to flourish, making textiles an important recycling product. At that time we moved to the Pittemsteenweg in Tielt and in 1978 we settled permanently at the North Industrial Estate. Here we grew into a scrap company that meets all environmental standards.

Who and what?

Our company buys and sells metal waste. This is not only 'scrap iron' from private individuals, but also industrial waste, waste from demolition works, end-of-life vehicles and WEEE (electrical waste). To be able to resell the scrap metal as a raw material, a lot needs to be done first:

• Search by metal type (eg. Zinc, lead, aluminum, stainless steel)
• Rid of impurities (eg. Zinc should not contain any residues of asphalt, tires and remove oil)
• Depollueren (eg. ELV Directive)
• Transport (strict legislation)
• Administration (registration requirement vendor identification metals)
