Comet Group

Rivage de Boubier 25, Châtelet, Hainaut, Belgium | Multi-Material Recycling

Who are we ?

We are a Belgian family-owned industrial group active in the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector and their derivatives.

We are present in Europe but also in Asia and South America.

In a few decades, we have developed new technologies and industrial capacity which make us a leader in recycling these materials in Europe.

Thanks to its multiple skills, its sense of innovation, its voluntarism and the means which have been granted to it, our Research and Development unit has enabled the group to achieve unmatched recovery rates to date; 98.4% on products as diverse as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, end-of-life vehicles (ELV), waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and shredding residues.

This exceptional level, however, is not an end in itself; we continue to seek improvements in these rates.

This ability to innovate, combined with the involvement of each of the group's employees in these industrial projects, makes it possible to transform yesterday's waste into the secondary raw material of tomorrow.

The history of the COMET Group began in 1986 with the takeover by Alfred Grosjean of the PARIDANS shipyards in Aubange and the Bodson shipyard in Châtelet in 1987.

Very quickly, the tonnages increased and the site gained momentum. In 1988, the Compagnie des Métaux de la Sambre (better known today under the name COMETSAMBRE) was created, followed four years later by RECYMET, thus marking the beginnings of the COMET Group. The same year, Pierre Grosjean, Alfred Grosjean's son took over the management after several years in the field learning the workings of the trade.

For 5 years, he continued to develop the activity which was finally taken over by his brother Philippe Grosjean in 1997.

The COMET Group quickly consolidated its position and felt the need to grow and develop its activities. Through the buyout and creation of companies, the Group has strengthened its position in the ferrous and non-ferrous market, but has also extended its expertise to other areas of activity related to recycling.

Today, the COMET Group has around thirty companies established in Belgian and French territories. It has high-performance facilities allowing it to achieve unrivaled recycling rates.
