1923

The origin of today's EGN lies in 1923. Company founder Mathias Trienekens starts marketing straw as a raw material for the paper industry.

1954

With the entry into dust-free household waste collection (1st garbage truck), the basis for a disposal company is created.

1968

Hellmut Trienekens takes over the company. The services of the 1970s are determined by municipal contracts for collection and transport. Landfills for various types of waste and a separate laboratory for environmental and waste analysis are created.

1981

The first raw material recovery plant goes into operation in Neuss, the most modern plant of its kind in Europe. It triggers a boom in processing technology that will shape the next two decades.

1989

RWE Umwelt Aktiengesellschaft takes a stake in Trienekens Abfall GmbH. 1990 Trienekens AG sets up a dismantling center for product recycling of electrical and electronic devices.

1995

The company developed the first large-scale plant for mechanical-biological residual waste treatment in Düren.

2002

The complete takeover of Trienekens AG by RWE Umwelt AG takes place. RWE Umwelt West GmbH offers disposal services in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia, today's EGN area.

2005

SWK STADTWERKE KREFELD AG acquire RWE Umwelt West GmbH. The former RWE Umwelt West has been operating under the name EGN Entsorgungsgesellschaft Niederrhein mbH since December 12, 2005.
