More than 40 years ago, Jan Smit (my father) started collecting scrap iron and metals. Back then to earn some extra on his salary. By working in shifts it was possible to build a company and soon working for the boss became less and the company started to take shape.

From father to son

In recent years, both companies J.Smit Ijzer and Metaalhandel (Jan) and Smit Mwtaal Recycling (Jim) have been active side by side. Of course with a lot of overlapping activities.

In order to prepare the company for the future, the companies will eventually be further merged in Smit Metaal Recycling. 

New owner, new ideas

Jim Smit was interested in the company from a young age, after a period of working at various companies it was finally decided to go into metal recycling. Jan's contacts were addressed, the network expanded and the approach modernized.
