Meerlanden NV
Aarbergerweg 41, Rijsenhout, Noord-Holland, Netherlands | Waste recycling
As an innovative sustainable company, Meerlanden has the goal of 100% recycling of waste.
From a more traditional waste collector, we have developed into an innovative waste collector and processor that also relieves municipalities of the integrated management of public space and by providing services in the field of ice control. We give more value to waste flows by using them as raw materials as much as possible, thus contributing to a cleaner environment.
In recent years we have taken and been given the space to innovate. This has led, among other things, to the construction of a fermentation installation that was put into use in 2011. With this installation, the energy present in the organic waste is converted into biogas. This gas is then upgraded to green gas. With this innovation, a first step has been taken to create a regional circular economy.

How Meerlanden NV was founded.
Meerlanden was created in 1997 from the merger of a number of municipal services. We have developed from a traditional waste collector into an innovative company. We are a healthy government organization and collect waste for nine municipalities and 4000 companies in the Schiphol, Bollenstreek and Zuid-Kennemerland area.
Rijsenhout incineration plant
In the mid-1960s, the municipal councils of Aalsmeer and Haarlemmermeer made a joint waste arrangement. In 1968 the incineration plant in Rijsenhout was put into use.
Mission & strategy
“Collaboration is very important to Meerlanden. You cannot implement transitions alone. We can only make a sustainable difference together with partners. Circular together faster. '
Strategy Meerlanden
A sustainable and beautiful living environment. We all want that. The national government is also working towards this with the aim of making the Netherlands fully circular by 2050. Meerlanden is actively taking the lead in this area in the region. We are a social and innovative company that collects, processes, reuses and recycles (Re-use, Re-pair, Re-cycle) products, waste and raw materials in an inclusive and progressive manner. In addition, we supply energy and heat, and we are continuously committed to a clean, complete and safe public space. In this way, Meerlanden contributes to a beautiful and circular living environment in this region, today and tomorrow. Think global, act local.
You can see and read how we do this in daily practice in our image book 'Circular together faster'.
Circular together faster!
Meerlanden's strategy is aimed at creating and maintaining a beautiful and sustainable living environment. We are working on a world in which we do not exhaust raw materials, but reuse them. We think it is important to handle what we have with care, because our earth is a closed system. We are only satisfied when we live and undertake in such a way that the living area is clean, the waste is neatly collected, the streets are clean and intact and the Meerlandenregion remains a pleasant place for our children and grandchildren.
For us, the circular economy touches the core of how we work on this sustainable and beautiful living environment. The circular economy stands for the high-quality use of raw material flows that we collect from residents and companies in our region and that we collect through the management of public space.
Together we are fast and agile. We are a pioneer in the circular transition in our region. We don't wait, we want to go faster. Faster to meet social demands and challenges. We cannot do that alone. Together with municipalities, residents and companies, we want to look for opportunities to boost the circular economy even faster and smarter. We call this: Circular together faster!
Up to and including 2019, we have organized all our activities into six strategic pillars: more production from waste, more green energy and heat, more opportunities for people, more involvement in the neighborhood, more biobased products & biodiversity and more financial value.
In the course of 2019, together with our shareholders and key partners, we formulated a new strategy for the years 2020-2024, in which we want to transform our services from good to excellent, as well as our internal business operations. And in which we explicitly want to take on our role as a director in the field of raw material flows.
