Originate

HMS, formerly the Cleaning Service and part of the City Management Service (DSB) of the municipality of The Hague, was created on December 29, 1998 from a partnership established in a cooperation agreement between the municipality of The Hague and AVR. The objective of this cooperation agreement is to achieve an efficient and high-quality result-oriented execution of the cleaning task, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. By broadening and intensifying the cooperation between the municipality and AVR, the objective is also to achieve a reasonable return. At the beginning of 2007 AVR merged with Van Gansewinkel. Since then, the statutory management has been carried out by Van Gansewinkel Milieuservices Overheidsdiensten BV.

Structure

HMS is a public limited company with Renewi Overheidsdiensten BV as statutory director and the municipality of The Hague as sole shareholder. A Supervisory Board (SB) provides independent supervision, focuses on transparent and good corporate governance of HMS and also supervises the financial reporting of HMS. The internal main structure consists of the departments of Management, Implementation, Control and HR.

Scope

The scope of HMS includes the collection of waste from private residents of The Hague and the operation of three waste transfer stations. This includes household waste, bulky household waste, vegetable, fruit and garden waste (VGF), glass, paper & cardboard (OPK), plastic packaging waste, cans & beverage packs (PMD), textiles and small chemical waste (KCA).
In addition, HMS performs a number of special tasks, including pest control, icing conditions (winter period) and storage of household effects in case of eviction.
