OUR STORY

It all started in 1987 when our founder Sheldon Mickelson was stuck between a rock and a hard place.  He had recently moved to south Florida from Washington state, he had five young kids (including a newborn) and he had $0 to his name.  Needless to say, Sheldon was having a hard time providing for his growing family - and he needed a solution.  Little did he know what that “solution” would turn into.

A family friend named Steve proposed that he and Sheldon go into business together - hence the name 'S&S'.  Sheldon replied saying, 'I will do anything you want me to do as long as you pay me $600 by the end of the week because my rent is due!'  So, the two men struck a deal.  After five weeks Steve met with Sheldon and said “if you want more money, go collect it yourself” because Steve wasn’t paying him anymore.  And just like that, Sheldon was thrown headfirst into the construction waste business.

After realizing that there wasn't enough profit for both Steve and Sheldon to share, Sheldon told Steve he couldn't do it any longer.  But thankfully after that talk, Steve told Sheldon that he never wanted to be partners – he just wanted to help Sheldon get back on his feet.  From there, they agreed that as long as Sheldon paid him back his five weeks of pay (by assisting Steve in his dry wall business), Sheldon could have the construction waste business to himself – and start with a clean slate.

From there, the business began to bloom…
From picking up trash by hand using a borrowed truck, to a year later buying his own truck, and 2 years later creating the first grapple truck for construction debris removal, the company continued to flourish.  Over the past 30 years, S&S National Waste has continued to be renowned for its excellent service - and recognized as the originator of the Grapple System for construction waste removal – which is still considered second-to-none.
