Ecodek
Unit 13 Abenbury Way , Wrexham Industrial Estate, Wrexham , Wales, United Kingdom | Waste recycling
Ecodek have been manufacturing composite decking and fencing since 2004. As the UK’s market leader in Wood Polymer Composite decking materials, we manufactured over 1 million linear metres of decking in 2017, consuming 3600 tonnes of recycled wood and plastic.
As a manufacturer of a range of products made from 95% recycled materials and are 100% recyclable, Ecodek by its very nature is a champion of sustainability. As a company we strive to promote and engender a culture of sustainability both across our suppliers, site management and employees.
While the company ethos is to maintain high credentials for all of this, we are always looking for ways to improve our methods and we are working towards a Zero to Landfill policy.
On a more local level, we work with North Wales Wildlife Trust and their Living Landscapes Project. We are encouraging wildlife back to the leafy green environs surrounding our factory – through planting wild flowers and improving habitats. As a silver member, we are proud to be able to increase our support to them which will go towards helping threatened species in the Wrexham area. A donation of £2500 to NWWT was made in January 2017 which was used in part to fund bat boxes
Ecodek is an inclusive employer who value the contributions all staff can bring to the business with them. We have worked to gain the accreditation of a Level 2 ‘Disability Confident Employer’, working towards Level 3.
In addition, we have worked with the Remploy for several years with great success. Remploy aim to create equality in the workplace and exists to improve the lives of disabled people and those with complex needs through the power of work.
Similarly we work closely with Scope, another organisation with the aim to support families and improve the equality for disabled people in the workplace
In addition, we have achieved “carbon negative” status for the production of our composite decking system. A life-cycle assessment programme, undertaken by the BioComposites Centre of Bangor University, considered production of the decking on a cradle to factory gate basis, accounting for all significant materials, transport, energy use and packaging inputs. Results showed that production of ecodek® actually had a net effect of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere rather than adding to it – hence carbon negative – a huge achievement in modern manufacturing and one that clearly illustrates our company’s environmental credentials.
In addition, our plans include providing healthy outdoor spaces in which the staff can take their breaks, including picnic tables made from ecodek® bearers!
