Company History
1977 Wm. Munro Construction (Highland) Limited was established by W. Munro specialising in highway construction and repair.
1982 After around five years the company purchased Kindeace Farms, Invergordon, in order to enter the agricultural sector and to develop part of the land as a quarry facility and the following year it opened Invergordon Sand and Gravel Quarries on this site.
1987 With the right facilities available Wm. Munro Construction (Highland) Limited were granted a full unconditional asbestos removal license by the Health and Safety Executive which we have held continuously to date.
1989 The company opened its long distance haulage division as it continued to expand the level of services provided to our clients.
1995 Another new development saw the company open a Skip Hire and Waste Collection division and the following year we secured and were awarded the waste management contract with the Ministry of Defence for RAF Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth. This ongoing contract has now been with Munros for more than fifteen years.
1997 Whilst we were starting to forge a reputation and track record as a waste management specialist, the company continued to win significant construction works, including the £1.5m ground and site works contract for the new Inverness Retail Park.
1998 Munro Construction secured its first full waste transfer license and opened the Highland Deephaven Waste Transfer Station Facility at Evanton. In construction we secured the Barmac Oil Fabrication Yard’s site works and maintenance contract over two year term.
1999 In recognition of our expertise and commitment to excellence the company was awarded the ISO9001 Quality Management System Accreditation during this year.
2001 The first five years of the new millennium saw the company win lots of large demolition and construction contracts including: the demolition of the Royal Northern Infirmary in Inverness; the Wool Mill Buildings in Brora; construction works at Diageo Glen Ord Distillery; construction works at the new Tesco Supermarket in Dingwall; and the demolition of the former Jaeger Clothing Factory in Campbeltown.
2006 This year, the company purchased a former military aircraft hanger in Evanton and secured a full waste transfer license to enable it to open the Beechwood Waste Transfer Station; which included a materials recycling facility at the same site.
2007 Further demolition and construction contracts were won including the new Tesco Supermarket, in Danestone, Aberdeen.
2008 The Beechwood Waste Transfer Station facility continued to be developed and the company soon opened the Highland’s only plasterboard recycling facility, and its only ‘In Vessel’ animal by product and food waste composting facilities; making it the most versatile waste transfer station in the region.
2009 The company secured the Highland Council domestic refuse disposal contract and the Inverness College waste collection and disposal contract.
2009 The company secured planning, a full waste transfer license and constructed and opened the Cromwell Road Waste Transfer Station in Inverness.
2010 A new dedicated material recycling facility was opened at the Beechwood Waste Transfer Station and the company was awarded the ISO 14001:2004 accreditation for Environmental Management Systems.
2010 Other contracts won this year included: the demolition and site works contract for a refurbished Tesco Supermarket in Inshes, Inverness; the site works contract for a new Tesco Supermarket in Tain; and the demolition contracts for the Western Isles New Schools Project.
