Recycling. Resources. Responsibility.
'Recycling. Resources. Responsibility. ”That is not just the motto, but also the claim of Scholz Recycling GmbH: using recycling to conserve resources sustainably and thus to take responsibility for the environment and future generations. Because we are one of the most important trading, processing and recycling companies for steel and metal scrap in all qualities and types. With the most modern systems and work processes, we ensure that the material cycle in the secondary area is closed. Large industrial companies rely on us, as do public bodies and private customers, also for demolitions, gutting, dismantling and analysis of recyclable materials.
Scholz Recycling GmbH is part of the Chiho Environmental Group (CEG) and thus one of the largest metal recycling companies in China. As a globally active group, CEG has set itself the goal of becoming one of the most important global raw material suppliers in Asia as well as in Europe and the USA.
Optimized processes for the environment
The Scholz Group is a global network with companies and holdings in the field of processing and processing scrap and metals. Thanks to this network, the group of companies is one of the few recyclers who offer all activities for the processing of metals and scrap iron from a single source. Hundreds of collection and storage areas with optimal transport connections are available in all parts of the world as well as recycling systems for every need. A global infrastructure that allows the Scholz Group to bundle scrap every day into gigantic material flows and move it around the globe. A reliable infrastructure from which the Scholz subsidiaries in the related business areas also benefit.
Reliability, humility and a sense of responsibility characterize the corporate principles of the Scholz Group. In international comparison, it is one of the leading recyclers of steel and metal scrap. A large part of the internal investments flows into optimized processes - and thus into improved working conditions and environmental protection.
numbers and facts
Scholz Group in numbers
In its endeavor to meet customers worldwide and their demands every day, the Scholz Group has created a corporate structure that sets standards in many respects. Would you have thought that the storage area of all locations of the Scholz Group together is larger than 1,200 soccer fields? That the 750 or so Scholz trucks in total cover a distance that stretches almost three and a half times around the globe every day? That the group of companies prevented the emission of around 10.4 million tons of CO 2 in 2016 ? This would have been created if the material recycled by the Scholz Group had been obtained from primary raw materials instead of scrap.
The Scholz Group at a glance:
• 1.63 billion euros in sales in 2016
• Around 3,400 employees
• Over 250 locations worldwide
• More than 100 holdings
History
From one-man business to global player
When Paul Scholz opened a small sorting company in Lower Silesia in 1872, he had no idea that it would one day become a global group of companies. Today the Scholz Group has around 5,000 employees and, as a provider of the secondary raw material scrap, supplies hundreds of steelworks, foundries and smelters around the world.
With courage and foresight, the Scholz Group has always successfully adapted to changing conditions. For example, with the relocation of the company headquarters to Aalen at the end of the 1940s, as well as with the establishment of European trade relations in the 1970s. The group is now active in the USA, Mexico and China. The Scholz Group has also continuously expanded its business areas over the years.
It is now not only a leader in the recycling of scrap from steel and non-ferrous metals. With its companies, the group of companies has made a name for itself through disposal, service and logistics concepts.
In December 2016, a new chapter in the history of Scholz was written. Since then, the Scholz Group has been fully owned by the Chiho Environmental Group (CEG), the leading Chinese recycler and importer of mixed scrap metals and the largest purchaser of old electric motors from Europe.
Protection of natural resources
Scholz Recycling GmbH is part of the Chiho Environmental Group (CEG) and thus one of the largest metal recycling companies in China. As a global group, CEG has set itself the goal of becoming one of the most important global raw material suppliers in the Greater Asia region as well as in Europe and the USA.
Since it was founded in 1995, CEG has grown into one of the largest metal recycling companies in China. USUM Investment Group Co., Ltd. is now the majority shareholder of the Chiho Environmental Group. CEG shifts its focus to the protection of the environment and natural resources. Not only the name, but also the CEG logo should therefore reflect the commitment in the recycling sector. The circle on the left stands for the recycling industry, i.e. the raw material cycle. This circle opens up towards the name, which is shown in Chinese characters. This means: Chiho is part of the recycling industry and actively controls the flow of materials.
Because in China the challenges associated with growing waste volumes are far more tangible than in Western countries. Illegal landfills, incineration and other improper forms of disposal are common. Therefore, among other things, the change in people's minds has top priority for the Chinese environmental agenda. It's about the transition from a throwaway society to a more sustainable society where recycling is central. With the modern technologies from Scholz, such as the recycling of old vehicles, CEG wants to tackle these problems.
With metal recycling, CEG sees itself as an environmental company - the name Chiho Environmental Group reflects this claim and responsibility. Accordingly, the attitude also has the full support of shareholders, to whom environmental protection is extremely important.
Mission statement is based on sustainable environmental goals
A growing world population and the rising standard of living mean at the same time more waste and a greater dependence on natural raw materials. By the way, metals are - after water and concrete - the most widely used raw materials worldwide. Last year, over 90 percent of the ferrous and non-ferrous scrap delivered to the Scholz and Chiho locations could be recycled. The recycling of metals relieves the landfill, reduces greenhouse emissions and reduces the exploitation of non-renewable resources. It also lowers energy consumption.
In contrast to other materials such as concrete, plastics, etc., metal can be recycled an unlimited number of times without sacrificing performance. Therefore, CEG expects an increasing demand for metals, especially in the construction industry, where metals can replace concrete. Over the past 20 years, the world's commodity multinationals have been among the 50 largest companies in the world, be it iron ore, oil or gas. CEG believes that the gradual shift from natural raw materials to recycled resources will accelerate over the next 20 years.
This is why CEG - and thus also the Scholz Group - is excellently positioned to distinguish itself as a global leader in the metal recycling industry in the long term. Under the leadership of CEG, the Scholz Group is committed to the responsible treatment of the environment and is clearly committed to ecological sustainability.
The group's declared goal is to become a first-class, global company in the recycling industry, supported by its strong network, its global technology leadership and its extraordinary talent pool of intercultural employees.
Thanks to the global market position of CEG, the Scholz Group will be one of the world's leading recycling companies, whose mission statement is based on sustainable environmental goals.
