History

The young generation brings a breath of fresh air
Lustadt: René Bauer Containerdienst is thinking about a recycling center - Goal: Become a training company

René Bauer Containerdienst has just received approval for an expansion of the company premises. The generation change has passed calmly, the company continues to focus on growth. The business with scrap metal, container service and transport is tough, but it is also a lot of fun, say junior and senior.

The company premises in the Lustadt industrial park have 8,000 square meters. Five trucks, two of them for roll-off containers and three for so-called drop-off containers, are on the road, and the material is moved on the site with a grab excavator, sorted and transported to the appropriate storage area, called boxes. The company has just received approval for the expansion of its premises - the signs point to expansion. 'The company has grown significantly', confirms Hans Hepp, who accompanied the expansion as an engineer. Very important for him: 'The Bauer company really cares about keeping burdens to a minimum and has therefore made investments that would not be necessary according to the law.'

'Since copper thieves struck, non-ferrous metal has been stored in the company.'

The approval of the business expansion went smoothly, says Hepp. It took the responsible authorities just three months to put all the necessary stamps on paper - such a procedure often takes more than a year. The district administration in particular was very cooperative, says René Bauer happily. René Bauer has been in the business since 2001. The then 19-year-old learned from father Martin Bauer 'from scratch'. The trained car mechanic drove containers and helped out in the company. “If one of our drivers is sick or on vacation, I drive too. And I enjoy it, I just need it, ”he says. He is now the managing director, his sister Julia organizes the commercial area together with mother Elisabeth, and the company's founder Martin Bauer is of course still on hand to offer advice and assistance. 'It's good how the young generation brings a breath of fresh air,' says the senior. The company is currently investing well over 50,000 euros in the expansion. The turnover is 'in the six-digit range'. The company handles between 1000 and 1500 tons of scrap metal every month, plus the business with waste, mainly rubble.

'We are broadly positioned through the three business areas of container, scrap metal and transport,' explains the company founder, 'If a business area weakens a bit due to the economic situation, we will correct it.' Success proves him right: the vehicles are constantly being used to capacity, there is a standstill Not.

Martin Bauer started container service 30 years ago. At that time he was traveling alone, the working day was usually 16 hours. Elisabeth Bauer meanwhile did the bookkeeping, wrote invoices and took care of taxes and administrative procedures. The Lustadt company had a truck and an excavator back then. There are now six employees and a fleet of vehicles that are in use within a radius of around 200 kilometers. Father and son see competition more as an incentive. “Our strength is that we can react quickly,” says René Bauer. An advantage that comes about on the one hand through the motivated employees, who are regularly sent to further training and specialist courses. 'In addition, the really big ones simply cannot react so flexibly,

The situation on the markets is currently more difficult. The metal prices are very restless, explains René Bauer. In addition, one had to switch to non-ferrous metals such as copper. After the Lustadter company was also a victim of copper thieves last year, non-ferrous metal is no longer stored but 'driven through' directly to the wholesalers.

The family company already has plans for the near future in its drawer: If everything works out, they want to become a kind of recycling center for Lustadt and the surrounding area. So far, many construction companies and handicraft businesses have already been partnered with, and in future private individuals should also be able to deliver their building rubble and scrap metal. The metal is then remunerated according to the current daily price.

It is also planned to become a training company within the next one or two years. The company has already created four new jobs in recent years. (Isb)
DOWN TO BUSINESS
Emission protection
Every warehouse company has to observe emission protection, explains Hans Hepp, engineer in this field. The approval for companies like René Bauer Containerdienst in the Lustadter industrial park is tied to the size of the company. Storage quantity and daily turnover are the two variables that need to be considered, continues Hepp.

Purely by law, it is stipulated that nothing “goes wrong” when storing and sorting scrap metal, especially in the area of water law. In concrete terms, this means that although all scrap metal parts that are handled in Lustadt must be clean - appropriate precautions must be taken purely for the possibility that individual parts could contain oil residues.

The storage area of the company René Bauer Containerdienst is therefore given a new concrete seal, and appropriate oil separators are installed. This allows the company to continue handling and sorting “non-hazardous waste” and to expand further. (Isb)
