Veolia Umweltservice GmbH
Hammerbrookstrasse 69, Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany | Wood Recycling
Natural resources are becoming scarce. At the same time, they are urgently needed for the needs of an increasingly densely populated and increasingly urbanized planet that faces the consequences of climate change. The world needs to rethink its use of resources and develop new social and economic models that are more efficient, more balanced and more sustainable.
Veolia has 160 years of experience in water, waste disposal and energy. Veolia's ability to innovate is based on the progress and well-being of mankind and the performance of companies and regions. For the change from a culture of resource consumption to a culture of use and recovery in a circular economy, Veolia develops and implements the necessary solutions: solutions that improve access to resources and at the same time ensure their protection and renewal.
Veolia and all of the group's employees ensure RESOURCES FOR THE WORLD every day.
Improve access to resources
In a world of growing demands and dwindling reserves, access to elementary resources is becoming more difficult and tense. In response to this challenge, Veolia is developing enduring solutions to provide the largest possible number of people with the resources necessary for community welfare, the attractiveness of regions and the performance of companies. This includes solutions for the safe supply of drinking water and energy services to cities and their inhabitants, for the continuous supply of industrial production processes and for the recycling of substances in the circular economy.
Protect resources
In the face of increasing tensions over resources, their protection and conservation are a shared responsibility of all. Resources that are less used, better used and less harmed are resources that will still be available in the future. That is why Veolia develops innovative and sustainable solutions that only promote and extract the quantities that are really necessary, in the right places, at the right time and with the right methods. At the same time, Veolia protects the balance of ecosystems to ensure that resources remain available. Veolia uses its expertise to use these resources sparingly and efficiently, minimize losses in the usage cycle and eliminate harmful effects on human health and the natural environment.
Renew resources
Veolia is consistently developing opportunities to create new secondary raw materials that can gradually compensate for the scarcity of natural primary raw materials. Through innovations in reuse and recycling, Veolia provides solutions that significantly extend the life cycle of resources once they are extracted and increase their utility value. As a contribution to closing material cycles, Veolia also develops expertise in the area of eco-design to support producers from the first steps in the development of manufacturing processes to the production of new products based on reused or recycled material.
Veolia also makes completely new resources available in all three business areas and at their interfaces: the waste heat from industrial processes becomes heating energy for apartments; wastewater becomes fertilizer or bioplastic; Biogas from waste or wastewater treatment is used as fuel or to generate electricity and heat.
We at Veolia Germany face these four challenges together:
Resource finiteness
The increasing global demand for raw materials requires the optimal utilization and recovery of natural resources. We welcome impulses for the expansion of the circular economy and are working on the increasing use of secondary raw materials and on closing recycling cycles.
Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency is the key to the energy transition and to achieving the climate goals that have been set. We see potential savings through optimal power-heat coupling, also across sectors, are working on decentralized power generation to relieve the strain on the network infrastructure, for example through our success model energy efficiency district. Our company has all the necessary skills to use energy more efficiently and we will continue to expand our services in this area, for industry, but also for municipalities and businesses.
Sewage sludge
Sewage sludge that arises from wastewater treatment is an as yet unused source of energy and raw materials. We increasingly use wastewater and sewage sludge as an energy source and use innovative concepts for the production of alternative fuels from waste. We want to step up the recovery and use of phosphorus and other nutrients and open up new markets with innovative technologies and new contract models, thereby helping to conserve natural water resources.
digitalization
Innovation offers considerable potential for our future and is an essential driver of our business. Digitization is of particular importance. We rely on intelligent technologies to conserve resources and improve the quality of life in cities ('resilient cities') and on digital networking of the sectors for efficient and safe use of energy (keyword smart grid).
