2013 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Program Uncirculated Clad Half-Dollar (5G6)
Description:
General Henry H. Arnold was the only officer in the history of our country to earn both the ranks of General of the Army and General of the Air Force. He graduated from West Point in 1907. General Arnold received pilot training in 1911 from the Wright brothers and became one of the Nation’s strongest advocates for air power. He personally held many trophies for flying achievements, to include the first delivery of United States mail by air. Many accomplishments in and from the air during World Wars I and II are attributed to his ingenuity. General Arnold was a student at the United States Army Command and General Staff College from 1928 to 1929.
General Omar N. Bradley was recognized throughout his career as an exceptional leader, tactician and educator. As Commandant of the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, he developed the officer candidate program. His leadership was instrumental in successes during World War II, including the liberation of Europe. The Army group under his command contained the largest number of Americans to ever serve under one commander. He became the Army Chief of Staff in 1948, and one year later he became the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Bradley was a student at the United States Army Command and General Staff College from 1928 to 1929.
