PHOENIX (Scrap Monster) : A fire on a heap of scrap metal in SA Recycling plant in Phoenix alarmed the locals on the wee hours of about 1.30 am Wednesday morning.

Intense flames and smoke that blazed up on the metal scraps of SA Recycling plant near 35th Avenue, Lower Buckeye made 50 firefighters to rush to the facility to put off the danger.

The reason for the fire is still unknown, though investigators are working hard on it. It is assumed that the fire might have started out from the insulators beneath the metal scraps piled on the scene.

About 20 plant employees who were on the place when the fire began were safely vacated from the spot. There are no reports of injuries or danger so far.

According Ruben Saavedra, the Phoenix fire captain, apart from the smoke and smell of burnt metal, nothing is of major concern and that the crews cleared the area free of danger at about 6 am.

SA Recycling plant is known to handle commercial and residential metal scraps for years and a similar fire happened three years ago.
