AF&PA Published Latest Packaging Papers Monthly Report

The total printing-writing paper inventory levels in March decreased 2% when compared to February 2025.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its March 2025 Packaging Papers Monthly Report.

Comparing the month to the same month last year, there was a little 1% increase in the overall shipments of packaging sheets and specialized packaging. The bleached packaging paper operating rate was virtually constant from year to year. When compared to March 2024, the shipments of bag and sack in March 2025 came to 113,400 short tons, flat, according to AF&PA.

The report states that in March 2025, the total shipments of printing and writing paper had a 5% decrease from the previous year. Compared to February 2025, the overall inventory levels of printing and writing paper fell by 2% in March. 

Uncoated Free Sheet (UFS), Coated Free Sheet (CFS), and Mechanical (MECH) paper exports in the United States decreased month over month during the month. UFS shipments decreased by 7.2% month over month, while CFS shipments decreased by 5.8%. Conversely, exports of MECH sheets increased by 12.5% from the month before.

According to the AF&PA study, MECH shipments increased while UFS and CFS shipments decreased so far this year.
