Graphic Packaging to Close Middletown, Ohio Paperboard Facility

The planned closure is expected to affect nearly 130 employees, the company said in a news release.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):Graphic Packaging Holding Company, a leading sustainable consumer packaging company, stated that it will permanently close its coated recycled paperboard production facility in Middletown, Ohio. The shutdown will take effect on June 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter.

The company's previously announced strategy to consolidate its production of recycled paperboard into Kalamazoo, Michigan, and the new Waco, Texas, facility, which is anticipated to start commercial production later this year, is consistent with the decision to close operations at the site. According to a news statement from the company, approximately 130 employees are anticipated to be impacted by the proposed closure.

Michael Doss, President and CEO of Graphic Packaging, commented on the situation, saying that the management is collaborating closely with the impacted employees to provide them with the support and job placement assistance they require. He also expressed gratitude to the entire Middletown team for their significant contribution to the expansion and prosperity of the manufacturing plant.

With the investments in Kalamazoo and Waco, Graphic Packaging will be able to manufacture the best, most cost-effective paperboard in North America. In the meanwhile, environmental benefits are anticipated as a result of the Middletown facility's closure.
