Ranked: Topmost Steel Producing Countries in February 2025

The country’s production was down sharply by 8.5% year-on-year to a total of 6.4 Mt.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In February of this year, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) released the list of the top 10 nations that produce steel.

With a production of 78.9 million tonnes (Mt) in February 2025, China continued to be the world's top producer of steel, according to the steel trade association. This represented a little decrease of 3.3% from the same month the previous year. During the first two months of this year, China produced 166.3 Mt of crude steel.

India came in second with 12.7 Mt of production. The output of the nation grew by 6.3% annually. Between January and February of 25th, the nation's total production was 26.4 million tons. Japan was the third-largest producer of steel. The nation produced 6.4 million tons, a significant decrease of 8.5% from the previous year.

The other countries to feature in the top ten list of producers, along with their output in Mt are as follows: the U.S. (6.0), Russia (5.8), South Korea (5.2), Turkiye (2.9), Brazil (2.7), Germany (2.7) and Iran (1.7).

India's output increased the most, up 6.3% from the same month the previous year. In contrast, Iran's output fell 21.8% from February 2024, the biggest drop of the year.

According to worldsteel data, the world's crude steel production fell 6.5% year over year to 144.8 Mt.
