First America Launches Innovative Environmental Initiative
Evertreen states that every 300 trees planted potentially offsets more than 180 tons of atmospheric carbon.
SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): First America, a leading North American recycler of trending electronic technologies, is starting the new year with an innovative, carbon-offset initiative that will recognize key recycling milestones by supporting global reforesting efforts. For every 10-percent increase in its recycling business, based on weight of materials recycled, First America will partner with Evertreen, a business devoted to reforestation, to plant 300 trees.
“As an e-waste recycler, we recover valuable resources that are stripped from the earth during the making of products consumers use and discard,” said Les Bury, president, First America. “We already work with our customers to reduce their carbon footprint through reuse and recycling of those manufactured goods. With this initiative, we are going a step further – adding back and improving the environment by restoring forests.”
Evertreen states that every 300 trees planted potentially offsets more than 180 tons of atmospheric carbon. Bury noted that First America has seen an average growth rate of 15 percent during the past five years. “This means that we fully expect to plant 300 trees in 2025, and we could end up planting 600 or 900 or even more,” he said. “Beyond that, if new or existing business clients express interest in participating in this initiative, First America will happily connect them with our project partner.”
Bury pointed out that First America has long done traditional electronics recycling and has tried to stay ahead of the curve in terms of recycling new and trending technologies, such as electric and hybrid vehicle batteries and charging stations, solar panels and systems, and even AI robotics. He said, “This eye to what’s next has helped us grow and expand our recycling efforts. With this new sustainability initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to the environment and meeting our own and our customers’ critical environmental goals.”
