Nippon Steel to Sue Biden for Choking U.S. Steel Acquisition
With the U.S. administration blocking the deal, the two companies will have to formally abandon the deal within 30 days.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Nippon Steel, a Japanese steel manufacturer, has threatened to sue the US government for preventing it from acquiring United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel), a U.S. steel company based in Pittsburgh.
Citing national security concerns and the threat to vital supply networks, the corporation is expected to challenge the processes underpinning U.S. President Je Biden's order to halt the much anticipated $14.1 billion acquisition, according to media sources. Biden also gave the Attorney General permission to implement the ruling.
In his remarks, President Joe Biden stated that robust supply chains and a robust domestically owned and run steel sector are both vital national security priorities. Additionally, he said, the country is weaker and less secure due to local steel manufacturing and domestic steel workers. Biden was previously tasked by the U.S. security assessment panel to make a final decision regarding the acquisition deal.

Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel denounced the ruling as illegal in a joint statement. Due process has been flagrantly violated by the ruling. The procedure was altered rather than following the law. According to the joint declaration, all necessary steps would be done to safeguard legal rights.
