Quebec’s Recycling System Changes Goes into Effect in the New Year

Residents may now recycle more things thanks to the new recycling system.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): It is anticipated that Quebec's recycling system reforms, which went into force at the beginning of the year, will successfully address the growing trash problem in the province. The list of eligible products for the recycling container will be expanded as a result of the adjustments. Additionally, manufacturers will have a say in how the province's recycling program is run.

Residents may now recycle more things thanks to the new recycling system. All printed materials, containers, and packaging can now be recycled. These consist of cardboard, paper, glass, and other types of plastic. Compostable bags, polystyrene containers, and aerosol cans will be the sole exclusions. Eco Enterprises Quebec (EEQ), a non-profit organization that represents companies that provide printed paper, containers, and packaging in the province, will oversee recycling throughout the province.

Businesses will be responsible for covering the costs of recycling under the new approach. Higher taxes will be applied to products deemed to be less environmentally friendly. In order to save money, the new approach will incentivize businesses to steer clear of non-recyclable products. Additionally, it will force manufacturers to eliminate overpackaging, utilize more single-material containers, and reduce the weight of their packing.

It should be mentioned that issues with the province's recycling system have arisen, including noticeably elevated levels of pollution. It is thought that the new model fits better.
