WFP, United Steelworkers Signed Tentative Collective Agreement

According to a company news release, the tentative agreement is subject to ratification vote by USW membership.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Western Forest Products Inc. (WFP), an integrated forest products firm situated in British Columbia, announced that it and United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 have struck a tentative collective agreement. Approximately 1,000 WFP employees are represented by the union.

A news statement from the corporation states that USW membership must vote to ratify the tentative agreement. It is anticipated that the vote will occur before the year ends. As advised by the USW bargaining committee, it will recommend its members to accept the agreement, it added.

The provisional agreement is the outcome of the professional and moral efforts of the bargaining team members from the USW and the corporation, said Steven Hofer, President and CEO of WFP, in a statement regarding the development. He praised the efforts made by both sides to identify areas of agreement and solutions that would benefit the workers and the company.

As the company anticipates accelerating the shift to higher value products through reinvestment in its operations, the new fair and balanced collective agreement is anticipated to give it crucial business stability.
