Smurfit Westrock Recognized with Top Sustainable and Innovative Design Awards

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): At the 81st Annual North American Paperboard Packaging Competition (PPC), Smurfit Westrock took home up to seven trophies. Among these are the Innovation Award of the Year and the Sustainability Award of the Year. The company's dedication to creating environmentally friendly packaging options and promoting the circular economy is evidenced by the accolades its rigid boxes and folding cartons have received.

The invention that used its patented PETCollar Eco design to convert PepsiCo's eight-pack Gatorade packaging from flexible plastic to recyclable paperboard was the recipient of PPC's Sustainability Award of the Year.

Using the company's PETCollar Shield Plus design, Liberty Coca-Cola's leading brands now use paperboard carriers instead of plastic rings, which won PPC's Innovation Award of the year.

The other award-winning products include Code Gaess Collector’s Edition Box Set (Gold Award), Hershey Seasonal Character Boxes and Yogi Tea Gift Box (Excellence Award-Sustainability), Unibroue DUODOZEN Advent Calendar (Excellence Award) and Rhum J.M. Canopee (Excellence Award-Sustainability, Innovation).

The accomplishment is credited to the breadth of knowledge of its designers and their inventiveness in creating ground-breaking solutions, said Laurent Sellier, president and CEO, North America, Smurfit Westrock.
