New Modern E-Waste Recycling Facility Launched in Accra

The Minister claims that the facility will serve as an e-waste collection or storage location.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Ghana announced opening of new e-waste recycling facility in Accra. The E-Waste Hand Over Center at Haatso was inaugurated by Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, Ghana’s Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. The new facility is an important turning point in the nation's transition to ethical e-waste disposal techniques.

The Minister claims that the facility will serve as an e-waste collection or storage location. It will also guarantee that the e-waste collected is treated strictly in accordance with international best practices. She went on to say that the facility shows a dedication to environmental and public health protection.

The German Development Bank and the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation worked together to build the facility with the goal of encouraging official e-waste collection and recycling systems. In addition to offices, the infrastructure includes a laboratory, a sick bay, and a hazardous area.

By offering them greater incentives to bring their used devices to the Handover Center rather than burning them, the project aims to strengthen operators in the unorganized sector. The Center hopes to help create a better and cleaner Ghana by doing this.
