worldsteel: Top Ten Steel Producers in September 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of September this year.
China was at the top of the list, with a little 6.1% drop in output from the year before. During the month, the nation produced 77.1 Mt of crude steel. In comparison to the same quarter last year, the cumulative output for the first three quarters of this year was 768.5 Mt, which was somewhat less by 3.6%.
At 11.7 Mt, India's anticipated output showed a little decrease of 0.2% from September 2023. From January to September of 2024, the nation produced 110.3 million tons of steel. While Japan's total annual output up to September of this year was down 3.2% from the previous year to 63.3 Mt, the country's monthly output was down 5.8% to 6.6 Mt.
The U.S. produced 6.7 Mt of steel, marginally higher by 1.2% when compared with the prior year. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.6 Mt, significantly lower by 10.3% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (5.5), Germany (3.0), Turkiye (3.1), Brazil (2.8) and Iran (1.5).
Iran saw the worst decline in steel production during the month, dropping 41.2% year over year among the top ten steel-producing countries. However, Brazil saw the biggest increase in output, with a 9.9% year-over-year increase.
