Scrap Metal Price: Weekly Market Report- October 18, 2024

Copper scrap prices showed a slight weekly decline of 3.58%.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report details the most recent week's (October 11–October 18, 2024) weekly global market price trends of the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index:

Copper Scrap Prices

Copper scrap prices showed a slight weekly decline of 3.58%.

North America

#1 Copper Bare Bright's price fell by 3.50% from the previous week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing declined 3.58% from its beginning to $4.04 per pound at the conclusion of the week. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went from $4.09 to $3.94 per pound, a $0.15 drop in price per pound.

On Thursday, October 17, 2024, the prices of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index decreased by 3.50% on a weekly basis, from $4.29 to $4.14 per pound. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing had a price drop from $4.19 to $4.04 per pound during the course of the week. By the conclusion of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had dropped by 3.67% to $3.94 per pound.

USA Midwest

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright decreased by 3.58% from the previous week. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw a 3.67% drop in price as well, closing the week at $3.94 per pound as opposed to $4.09 at the beginning. The price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category decreased during the week, from $3.99 to $3.84 per pound.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright decreased somewhat by 3.44% over the course of the week, from $4.36 to $4.21 per pound. This week, the price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped from $4.26 to $4.11 per pound. By the conclusion of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had dropped 3.61% from its beginning price of $4.16 per pound to $4.01 per pound.

China

The previous week's price of #1 Copper Bare Bright was CNY 75,000 per MT, a little decrease from CNY 76,250 per MT. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing was down slightly from the prior week as well—by 1.72%. Furthermore, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased by 1.75% to CNY 70,300 per MT on the Index.

Europe

#1 Copper Bare Bright's weekly price remained at $6,000 per tonne from the previous week. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index stayed constant at $5,200 per tonne, the same as it did the week before. Moreover, during the week ending October 17, 2024, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing remained unchanged on the Index.

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap decreased by 1.70% from the previous week.

North America

Red Brass prices per pound fell from $2.44 to $2.40 by the end of the week. Yellow Brass was also down on the Index. The price of the product dropped from $2.29 to $2.25 per pound, a decline of 1.75%.

Red Brass prices showed a 1.64% decrease from the previous week's prices. By the conclusion of the week, Yellow Brass was also marginally less expensive per pound, going down from $2.29 to $2.25.

USA Midwest

Red Brass witnessed a little price decrease from $2.42 to $2.38 per pound, or 1.65% less than the previous week. Yellow Brass was also down on Index. The price of the commodity dropped by 1.76%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was selling for $2.44 per pound as of Thursday, October 17, 2024, 1.61% lower than the previous week’s price. In addition, over the previous week, Yellow Brass's price per pound fell by 1.71%.

China

The price of Red Brass and Yellow Brass dropped during the course of the week. Red Brass's price fell by 0.78% to conclude the week at CNY 38,000 per MT, per the Index. Furthermore, the price of Yellow Brass dropped somewhat from CNY 35,650 per MT to CNY 35,350 per MT one week to the next.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, aluminum scrap prices on the Index slightly decreased by 2.44%.

North America

Over the preceding week, E.C. Aluminum Wire prices dropped by 2.56%. During the week ending October 17, 2024, the price of 6063 Extrusions dropped marginally by 2.17% from the previous week's pricing. On the Index, Old Cast prices dropped by 2.53%. Furthermore, UBC's prices dropped by 2.50% from the previous week.

At the closing price of $1.14 per pound as of October 17, 2024, E.C. Aluminum Wire prices reported a decline of 2.56% on a weekly basis. The price of 6063 Extrusions witnessed a decline of 2.17% during the week. Old Cast's prices were down by 2.53% on the Index. When compared to the previous week, UBC pricing were down by 2.50%.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire is 2.56% less than it was a week ago. Last week, the price of the commodity decreased by $0.03 per pound, to close at $1.14 per pound. In the meantime, 6063 Extrusions experienced a weekly price decrease of 2.20%. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the nominal price decreases for Old Cast and UBC were 2.53% and 2.60%, respectively.

USA West Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices showed a decreasing trend, falling by 2.56% from the previous week. The ScrapMonster Index showed a minor decrease in the price of 6063 Extrusions of $0.02 per pound as compared to the previous week's price of $0.92 per pound. Weekly changes in Old Cast prices on the Index were -2.50%. As of October 17, 2024, UBC's prices have similarly decreased by 2.47%.

China

At the end of the week, E.C. Aluminum Wire prices dropped by 1.53%, from CNY 19,650 per MT to $19,350 per MT. In addition, the price of 6063 Extrusions decreased by 1.62% from the previous week. On the Index, the price of Old Cast decreased by 1.63%. UBC prices were down 1.19% as of October 17, 2024, with a weekly closing price of CNY 12,450 per MT.

Europe

Throughout the week, the price of Old Cast remained unchanged at $1,050 per tonne. Additionally, UBC prices remained unchanged, holding steady at $1,250 per tonne on the ScrapMonster Index from the previous week.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap showed a weekly decline of 2.94%.

North America

An examination of 304 SS Solid price trends point to a slight drop in the commodity's price from the prior week. The commodity's price per pound fell by $0.02 during the course of the week.

The prices of 304 SS Solid recorded a modest decline of 2.94% over the previous week as of October 17, 2024. The prices during the week registered a fall from $0.68 per Lb to $0.66 per Lb.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices were down modestly by 2.94%, to end the week at $0.66 per Lb.

USA West Coast

For the week ending October 17, 2024, the price of 304 SS Solid dropped somewhat by 2.94% from $0.68 per pound the previous week.

China

Prices for 304 SS Solid decreased somewhat during the course of the week. Last week, the commodity's reported price dropped by 0.40%, from CNY 12,450 per MT to CNY 12,400 per MT.

Europe

The prices of 304 SS Solid witnessed no variation from the prior week’s price of $1,070 per Tonne during the week.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported a jump of 3.94% when compared with the previous week.

North America

The price of the #1 HMS from the previous week went up a little. The price of the product increased slightly to $315 per MT. The price of Shredded Auto Scrap increased from $365 per MT to $380 per MT during the course of the week. In a similar vein, HMS 80/20 saw a 4% increase in price from $250 per MT the previous week. During the week, #1 Busheling prices increased marginally by 2.63% as well.

According to the ScrapMonster Index, #1 HMS's prices increased by 5% during the week. Shredded Auto Scrap's prices for the week showed an increase of 4.11% from $365 per MT the previous week. During the week, the price of HMS 80/20 was up from $250 per MT to $260 per MT. #1 Busheling prices on the Index were also up by 2.63%.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's pricing increased by 5% from the previous week. Shredded Auto Scrap increased by 4.11% in the past week. On October 17, 2024, the HMS 80/20 pricing saw a 5% increase on the Index, coming in at $260 per MT. The prior week saw a 2.63% increase in the price of #1 Busheling as well.

USA West Coast

#1 HMS prices recorded a marginal increase of 5% over the prior week. The prices of the commodity ended the week at $315 per MT. Shredded Auto Scrap also was up, rising by 4.11% during the week. HMS 80/20 prices edged higher from $250 per MT to $260 per MT. Also, #1 Busheling prices were up by 2.63% over the week.

China

The #1 HMS pricing from the prior week remained unchanged. The price of the commodity stayed at CNY 1,630 per MT.

Europe

According to the ScrapMonster Index, #1 HMS's prices remained constant at $170 per Tonne through the week. Shredded Auto Scrap saw no change in price from $130 per Tonne the previous week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Lead Scrap prices held steady upon comparison with the prior week.

North America

A review of the price charts for Scrap Auto Batteries revealed that there had been no change in the commodity's prices from the previous week. The price per pound stayed the same at $0.22 throughout the week.

USA Midwest

Throughout the week, the price of scrap auto batteries remained unchanged at $0.22 per pound on the ScrapMonster Index.

Scrap Auto Batteries continued to be priced at $0.22 per pound, the same as it was at the start of the week.

China

Over the past week, Scrap Auto Battery prices recorded no variation on the Index. As of Thursday, October 17, 2024, the prices of the commodity stood unchanged at CNY 6,850 per MT.

Europe

The prices of Scrap Auto Batteries witnessed no difference from the prior week’s price of $820 per Tonne during the week.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded a modest decline of 2.65% in prices week-on-week.

North America

Over the previous week, the price of New Zinc Die Cast dropped by 2.44%, from $0.82 to $0.80 per pound. Prices for Old Zinc Die Cast also dropped week over week. The commodity's closing price on Thursday, October 17, 2024, was $0.68 per pound.

The cost of New Zinc Die Cast remained unchanged from the previous week. At $800, the cost per tonne didn't change.
