New Survey Highlights Concerns Among U.S. Voters over Plastic Pollution Crisis

The survey showcased the increasing awareness of microplastics in the human body.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A recent survey conducted by Data for Progress and the Center for Climate Integrity highlighted growing concerns about plastic pollution among U.S. voters. The poll, conducted in mid-August, calls for strong action by the government to curb plastic pollution to minimize its environmental impact.

It should be mentioned that the poll results have been released just before the conclusion of the U.N. Global Plastic Treaty negotiations.

The poll demonstrated the growing understanding of microplastics in human anatomy. There is a considerable degree of public awareness regarding microplastics, as seen by the nearly 85% of respondents who voiced concerns about their prevalence. The high level of concern underscores the larger, global shift in attitudes towards plastic waste and its threatening impacts on human health and the environment, the study noted.

Also, nearly 70% of the survey participants held plastic producers and the fossil fuel industry responsible for degrading the environment.

Sian Sutherland, co-founder of the Plastic Health Council said that the clear public opinion serves as a huge mandate for the U.S. government to take stringent action against polluters.

The findings of the survey suggest that delays in implementing effective policies will only exacerbate the rising plastic pollution crisis.
