Metsa Fibre Announced Temporary Layoff at Pulp Mill

Further details regarding layoffs will be announced towards the end of the current year, the company press release said.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Metsa Fibre announced that it has concluded the change negotiations on possible temporary layoffs at Joutseno pulp mill in Finland as of 26th August, 2024. The negotiations covered the entire workforce of the pulp mill, approximately 190 people in total.

Further to the conclusion of the negotiations, the company has decided to implement temporary layoffs for the personnel at the Finnish pulp mill. It cited adverse market conditions as the reason for the layoffs. The proposed layoffs will be implemented between September this year and January next year and will be for a maximum of up to 90 days. Further details regarding layoffs will be announced towards the end of the current year, the company press release said.

Metsa Fibre announced that it plans to start negotiations on possible layoffs at Lappeenranta and Vilppula sawmills as well. The change negotiations will cover the entire workforce of the above two sawmills- around 70 people in Lappeenranta and around 100 people in Vilppula. The layoffs, which could last up to 90 days, will be implemented in tranches by end-January 2025.

The layoffs are aimed at temporarily adjusting the production in order to meet low delivery volumes.
