PLASTICS Raised Opposition to White House’s Change in Stance on Plastic Production Caps

The White House has ignored these facts and has decided in favour of misinformation spread by anti-plastic activists, it noted.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) released a statement in opposition to the change in position by the U.S. to support the Global Plastics Treaty by supporting the call to limit plastic production.

The statement noted that White House’s misguided reversal in support of plastic production caps is not only impractical but directly harmful to all U.S. manufacturers. It will not help us in getting anywhere closer to reaching the shared environment goals, said Matt Seaholm, President and CEO of PLASTICS. With this decision, the White House has turned its back on Americans in general and particularly on manufacturers in all sectors that rely on plastic materials.

The Association highlighted that plastic offers unparalleled safety, protection, and efficiency. Moreover, it can be recycled and reused. As per study, plastics have lower total greenhouse gas contribution than its alternatives. The White House has ignored these facts and has decided in favour of misinformation spread by anti-plastic activists, it noted.

PLASTICS reiterated its commitment to keeping plastic out of the environment, for which a combined efforts from all stakeholders are required. The drastic position change will only backtrack these efforts, it said.
