SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) released its 2023 Sustainability Report. The report titled ‘The Future of Steel’ highlights significant progress in the company’s sustainability journey, in collaboration with government agencies, non-profits as well as energy and technology companies. The report outlines the company’s strategic plans and investments aimed at reducing its carbon footprints.

U.S. Steel has made considerable progress in optimizing its production and launching transformative products and partnerships throughout the previous year. This include the launch of an innovative project to capture and mineralize carbon emissions generated from its Gary Works blast furnaces. Also, it had entered into a partnership with Molten Industries and the US Department of Energy (DOE) to prioritize carbon-neutral steel production.

During the previous year, the company had announced the launch of COASTALUME-a highly sustainable roofing and siding solution, in partnership with DuPont.

The report noted that it has several projects in the pipeline, which will further progress the company’s sustainability efforts, including the anticipated completion of Big River Steel 2 before the end of the current year.
