AISI Released Annual Statistical Report for 2023

The U.S. raw steel production recorded marginal increase by 1.1% over the year to total 89.7 million net tons in 2023.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced publication of its 2023 Annual Statistical Report (ASR). The report provides comprehensive data on the American steel industry along with statistical data on the Canadian, Mexican and world steel industries.

According to the report, the steel shipments from domestic mills totalled 89.3 million net tons (NT) during the previous year, essentially unchanged over the year before that. The U.S. raw steel production recorded marginal increase by 1.1% over the year to total 89.7 million net tons in 2023.

The steel imports into the country recorded year-on-year decline by 8.7% in 2023, upon comparison with the previous year. Meantime, the finished steel imports registered year-on-year decline by 14.1% and accounted for approximately 21% market share of apparent steel consumption. Also, construction and automotive industries continued to remain as the leading end markets of steel consumption.
