As part of the investment, the existing paper machine at the mill will be converted into a high-quality recycled containerboard machine.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading sustainable packaging and per company Mondi announced groundbreaking of €200 million recycled containerboard mill investment in Duino, Italy mill, which it acquired in January last year. The proposed investment is part of the previously announced €12 billion investments in organic growth projects, aimed at meeting the rising demand for sustainable packaging.
As part of the investment, the existing paper machine at the mill will be converted into a high-quality recycled containerboard machine. This will create job opportunities in the region. Apart from contributing to the overall economic development of the region, the investment will help to strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders.
Mondi expects the new machine to be operational next year. When fully operational, the machine will be capable of producing 420,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard. The 8.5 metres machine will be the company’s widest recycled paper machine. The mill will give priority to local sourcing of materials, wherever possible.
Andrew King, CEO of Mondi Group noted that the investment will allow the company to meet the increasing demand for sustainable solutions across Central Europe, the Mediterranean area, and the local Italian market
