DS Smith Packaging Facility to Invest in Production Machinery

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith announced plans to invest approximately €6 million in production machinery at its La Chevroliere facility located in close proximity to the city of Nantes in the West of France. The investment, in response to growing customer demand for corrugated carbdboard in the region, will expand the size of the production space at the facility by nearly 4,000 square metres.

The investment will see installation of a Bobst Mastercut 2.1 die-cut machine. Also, a 2,500 square metre workshop will be set up for production of Kaypal cardboard pallets. The workshop will have capacity of 250,000 units and will be capable of producing up to 1.5 million pallets per year. It must be noted that Kaypal pallets are ultra-light weight, fully recyclable and has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions during transportation.

Thibault Laumonier, Regional Managing Director, DS Smith, France said that the opening of itsnew Kaypal cardboard pallet production workshop in La Chevroliere will provide sustainable packaging options to its customers and help them move towards a circular economy.
