Nucor Joined Forces with Google, Microsoft to Boost Clean Energy Technologies

These technologies are likely to fill the gaps in wind and solar production, which are still met by fossil fuels.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Nucor Corporation announced that it will work in partnership with Google LLC and Microsoft Corporation on new business models aimed at advancing its clean electricity technologies. The three partner companies aim to establish pilot projects and share the lessons learned with other companies, so as to make them support advanced clean energy projects.

According to company press release, the models will be designed in such a way as to accelerate the development of commercial projects employing state-of-the-art technologies including nuclear, geothermal and clean hydrogen. As a first step, Nucor plans to issue Request for Information (RFI) in various regions of the country.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has been promoting use of clean electricity technologies in a bid to reduce carbon emissions from manufacturing process. These technologies are likely to fill the gaps in wind and solar production, which are still met by fossil fuels.

Nucor noted that advanced clean electricity technologies are likely to face challenges initially, as it will be extremely difficult to secure finances. It aims to achieve significant reduction in technology cost by 2030.
