Rumpke Waste & Recycling Names New General Counsel

Mike has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America from 2020-2023, and previously was named to Ohio Rising Stars for attorneys from 2015-2019.

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Rumpke Waste & Recycling has named Michael Cappel as its new General Counsel. In his role, Mike oversees various legal functions at Rumpke which is one of the largest waste and recycling firms in the country with revenues topping more than a billion dollars. Mike will actively litigate cases and direct external counsel on corporate, and real estate cases including corporate and real estate acquisitions, contracts, employment, zoning, and other matters for the Rumpke, which has 4,000 employees and nearly 3,000 vehicles working daily to service millions of customers throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and West Virginia.

Mike was previously a partner at Keating, Muething & Klekamp (KMK), where his practice involved all aspects of litigation, including tort litigation, business and commercial litigation, and appellate practice. While at KMK, he represented Rumpke for more than a decade.

Mike is actively involved in many professional and civic organizations, including the Cincinnati and Ohio State Bar Associations, Cincinnati community development organizations such as HomeBase and the College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation, the City of Cincinnati’s Economic Inclusion Advisory Council, and Mercy-McAuley High School, to name a few.
