Aurubis to Invest in Precious Metals Processing at Hamburg Site

The plant will significantly improve Aurubis’ precious metals production capacity.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Aurubis AG has approved additional investments if € 330 million at its Hamburg, Germany plant.

According to company press release, it has earmarked around € 300 million towards building a new precious metals processing plant. Along with the existing facilities, the proposed Precious Metals Refinery (PMR) is expected to create a new, integrated high-security area for the processing of precious metals at the site. Also, around € 30 million has been allocated to deliver further improvement to environmental protection. It announced major expansion of the Reducing Diffuse Emissions (RDE) system.

The new precious metals processing plant is expected to come online by end-2026. The new plant will employ the newly developed metallurgical process, thus resulting in higher efficiency and lower operating costs. The plant will significantly improve Aurubis’ precious metals production capacity.

Roland Harings, CEO, Aurubis noted that the Supervisory Board of the company, by way of endorsing the comprehensive investment projects, has reaffirmed its support for the company’s growth strategy and its efforts to strengthen its core business. The projects will make important contribution to sustainable, environmentally friendly, and innovative metal production, he added.
