UPM Timber Announced Modernization of Korkeakoski Sawmill

The installation of modern equipment will also lead to better energy efficiency, said the company press release.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): UPM Timber announced plans to invest around Euro 10 million towards modernization of its Korkeakoski sawmill in Finland. The investment includes installation of a new split saw supplied by USNR. The split saw is expected to start operations in 2025.

The split saw in the second stage of sawing will be renewed. The investment also includes automation and purchase of other equipment for the mill. This will ensure generation of more end products using the same amounts of logs, thus ensuring more efficient use of raw materials. The installation of modern equipment will also lead to better energy efficiency, said the company press release.

Commenting on the investment, Janne Klaavuniemi, Korkeakoski Sawmill Director noted that the sawmill has been a testimony of excellent production efficiency. The proposed investment will further strengthen the company’s position. The investment marks the excellent continuation of the great contributions made by the sawmill to the industry over the past six decades, he added.

Earlier this year, Korkeakoski sawmill had installed an AmbiHeat heat pump system to process waste heat, thus reducing the volume of wood bark burned.
