Lagos Event Calls for Boosted Efforts to Fight Plastic Pollution

By organizing the event, SGORL aims to create a sense of social responsibility among communities so as to accomplish efficient material recovery and recycling.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): An event themed ‘Stop Plastic Pollution, Be a Part of the Solution’ was held in Lagos on 17th November, 2023, under the leadership of Sterling Global Oil Resources Ltd (SGORL) - a company that works on oil and gas fields in Nigeria. The event, conducted for the students of Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos was aimed at spreading awareness about responsible plastic waste management and the need to fight plastic pollution.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Oguntola Toyin-Director Circular Economy and Recycling Project said that plastic dumping leads to several environmental issues. The contamination in the environment can be prevented if plastic waste is properly recycled. By organizing the event, SGORL aims to create a sense of social responsibility among communities so as to accomplish efficient material recovery and recycling.

The event noted that the efficient recycling of plastic products and waste will not only benefit communities, but will also ensure a natural environment. Burning of plastic waste emits toxic gases and contaminants into the environment, it reminded.

SGORL reiterated its commitment to take accelerated efforts to arrest rising plastic pollution in the region.
