Fire at Rusal Aluminum Smelter in Siberia Extinguished

According to the emergency officials, there were no casualties.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A fire at the Rusal-owned Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter has been extinguished, Russia’s TASS state news agency reported, citing local emergency ministry officials.

According to TASS, the plant is operating as normal.

The fire broke out on an area of 50 square meters at 08:57 local time and was extinguished at 12:31.

According to the emergency officials, there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Rusal is the largest aluminum producer outside China. The Krasnoyarsk smelter has the capacity to produce 1 million metric tons per year, TASS reported.

Rusal did not reply to a request for comment.
