SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Irving, Texas-based Commercial Metals Company has rebranded itself as CMC. This is aimed at bringing a refreshed identity to represent the evolution of the 108-year old company over the past several years.
In a statement, Peter Matt, President and CEO of the company noted that it has been recognized as a metal recycling and steel-making company for more than a century. The acquisitions of like-minded metal companies over the past several years have justified its original name, Commercial Metals Company.

Today, it has expanded in a big way into a Fortune 500 company, owning and operating hundreds of facilities that employ nearly 13,000 employees. The recent acquisitions of Tensar, Tendon Systems and EDSCO Fasteners are part of CMC’s efforts to diversify beyond steel production.
