Kenya Scrap Metal Dealers Association Joined Hands with Government Agencies to Fight Vandalism
It must be noted that Kenya Power had blamed that at least some, if not all scrap metal dealers tend to promote trade of stolen materials.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Kenyan scrap metal dealers association has reiterated its commitment to work in close relationships with government agencies to thwart acts of vandalism.
The Knight Scrap and Iron Metal Dealers Association extended all possible support to Kenya Power in their actions aimed at preventing theft of public infrastructure which has resulted in significant losses to the public utility company over the past several years. It must be noted that Kenya Power had blamed that at least some, if not all scrap metal dealers tend to promote trade of stolen materials.

Gladys Nyambura, Secretary General of the Association urged Kenya Power to protect their properties by launching additional security systems such as CCTVs and secret cameras. It called upon the authorities to work hand in hand with the Association instead of blaming it. The scrap metal dealers licensing mechanism by the government has helped in bringing down vandalism significantly. The scrap metal industry is a major contributor to the country’s economy, Nyambura added.
The Association assured that any dealer found to deal with public infrastructure properties will be met with stringent action, including cancellation of license.
