Aluminum Association: North American Aluminum Demand Dipped in H1 2023

According to the Association, the demand for electrical wire and cable soared by 13.1% year-on-year in H1 this year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Arlington, Virginia-based Aluminum Association, in its latest monthly Aluminum Situation report, noted that domestic aluminum demand in the U.S. and Canada recorded a decline by 4.5% during the initial six-month period of the current year, in comparison with H1 last year.

The domestic demand in the U.S. and Canada totalled approximately 13.3 billion pounds in Jan-June’23, as compared with the demand of 13.9 billion pounds reported during the corresponding period a year before. Meantime, the exports from the U.S and Canada to other countries registered significant surge by 23.4% year-on-year. Also, the volume of imported aluminum and aluminum products to the region witnessed notable year-on-year decline by nearly 19%.

According to the Association, the demand for electrical wire and cable soared by 13.1% year-on-year in H1 this year. On the other hand, the demand for semifabricated products in the U.S. and Canada registered notable decline by 9.4% over the previous year.

Charles Johnson, president and CEO of the Aluminum Association stated that the half-yearly aluminum demand remained relatively strong compared to the past decade, although it recorded year-on-year decline following a buoyant 2022.
