AISI: U.S. Steel Shipments Dipped in July

The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 51.866 million net tons during the initial seven-month period of the year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) suggests marginal dip in steel shipments during the month of July this year compared with the same month a year ago. Also, the shipments recorded decline over the prior month.

According to AISI data, the steel mills shipped 7.550 million net tons in July 2023. This is marginally lower by 1.6% from the shipments of 7.676 million net tons in the same month a year before. Also, the shipments during the month witnessed modest decline by 1.4% from the previous month. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled 7.656 million net tons in June this year.

The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 51.866 million net tons during the initial seven-month period of the year. This is modestly down by 3.3% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled 53.649 million net tons during Jan-July ‘22.

The report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the initial seven months of 2023. The shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip during this period declined by nearly 2% over the previous year. Also, shipments of cold rolled sheet were down by 1%. On the contrary, hot rolled sheet shipments surged higher by 4%, upon comparison with the initial seven months of 2022, AISI noted.
