The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announces the opening of registrations for the 18th edition of steelChallenge. steelChallenge-18 invites students and industry professionals from around the world to take part in this learning programme and put their skills to the test using innovative online process simulations provided by steeluniversity.
steelChallenge-18 will take place in two riveting rounds. The first round, the Regional Championship, is scheduled to take place online on 29 November 2023, starting at 12:00 UTC and lasting 24 hours. During this round, competitors will use the Electric Arc Furnace and Secondary Steelmaking simulators to produce the required grade of steel in the most cost-effective manner. They will be challenged to refine the steel to precise chemical and temperature levels and then cast it accurately. The challenge includes requirements for the carbon footprint of the steel grade.
The finalists from each region and category will advance to the World Championship, scheduled for April 2024, to compete for the coveted title of World Champion. This second round will take place at the time of the World Steel Association’s meeting of its Board of Members and the winners will be recognised at an awards ceremony with the world’s leading steel companies.
Each participant who successfully completes a simulation run will receive an official steeluniversity certificate. In addition, by registering for the competition, participants will gain access to a wide range of learning resources, including e-learning courses, interactive 3D models and practice simulations, designed to enhance their knowledge of the steel industry.
The Regional Champions will receive a cash prize, a Regional Championship certificate, and an invitation to the World Championship. Their achievements will be highlighted as a testament to the emerging generation of skilled metallurgists within the global industry and will be prominently featured on the official steeluniversity website. The ultimate accolade, the World Champion, will receive the coveted steelChallenge trophy, accompanied by an exclusive cash prize and a certificate of achievement.
Registration for steelChallenge-18 is now open on the official steeluniversity website. The registration fee is €14.49 for students and €29.99 for industry professionals, providing access to a world of opportunity, knowledge, and recognition within the steel industry.
