Case Against Newport Scrap Metal Recycler Put on Hold

It must be noted that the plant has reported several explosions and fires during the past several years.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): As per report, the criminal case against a Newport scrap metal recycler over noise concerns has been put on hold. The decision comes following the recycler agreeing to take necessary steps to address the concerns raised. It must be noted that the trial proceedings by the Campbell County District Court against River Metals Recycling’s Newport facility were set to begin yesterday.

According to statement by City officials, the legal action has now been postponed after the company has agreed to implement necessary improvements at the facility. The proposed improvements include addition of new equipment to reduce noise and limit the risk of combustions. The company officials stated that it plans to install a fire detection and suppression system capable of detecting emerging hot spots and controlling them effectively, before they break out into large fire.

It must be noted that the plant has reported several explosions and fires during the past several years. It had reported 47 explosions in 2020, which increased further to 62 in 2021. A total of 51 explosions were reported during the previous year. Till date this year, there were 6 explosions, according to City Commissioner Ken Rechtin. In addition, the facility has reported several fire incidents.
