Nucor Signed Agreement with NextEra on Solar Project

The commercial operation is expected to begin in end-2025.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement with Sebree Solar, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 250 megawatts of renewable energy is in support of solar energy development in Kentucky.

The initial phase of Sebree Solar’s project is scheduled to begin construction this fall. The commercial operation is expected to begin in end-2025.

The project will source steel used for racking system from Nucor Steel Gallatin in Ghent, Kentucky. Another solar project to be built by Green River Solar, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, will make use of steel from Nucor Steel Gallatin for its project in Meade and Breckinridge counties.

The Kentucky project will have a capacity of up to 400 megawatts of energy, while the Green River Solar project will generate up to 200 megawatts of electricity. 

Greg Murphy, Executive Vice President of Business Services and General Counsel at Nucor Corporation noted that the company is delighted to partner with NextEra Energy Resources and to be a key material supplier to the project.

Rebecca Kujawa, president and CEO of NextEra Energy Resources said that the project will generate low-cost project and provide millions of dollars in additional tax revenue to Henderson County over the project’s lifespan.
