Finally, Camden Plywood plans to introduce robotic patch system at the plant.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Georgia-Pacific announced its decision to invest $18 million towards upgrades at its Camden Plywood plant. The investment will modernize the plant, boost its efficiency and ensure the longevity of the plant for several years to come, thus ensuring good jobs for east Texans.
The capital improvement plan comprises of three different projects. Initially, the over 40 years old dryer at the plant will be rebuilt. This project is expected to be completed by July. Another project will see introduction of a robotic strapping and stencilling system in replacement of the manual system. The new automated system, currently under installation, will increase efficiency.
Finally, Camden Plywood plans to introduce robotic patch system at the plant. The robots are designed to detect and repair imperfections in wood veneer during production. The path-breaking technology will be operated by four robotic technicians, who are currently being trained on the system.
The upgrades will be carried out by over 100 contractors over the next few months.
George Standley, Camden Plywood Plant Manager noted that the addition of robots to its lines will ensure more meaningful work, which in turn will lead to greater job satisfaction. It provides opportunity for its employees to grow their careers, he added.
